My mom came to get me when I was released from NeRF so we could ‘have a talk’. I got into her car and told her everything about the case that she had already been following in the news media.

“You have to leave Seattle. You can’t be here anymore. I don’t know what to do with you. You don’t have any more chances - not with us and not with the court.”

“I want to go to San Francisco,” I quickly responded without thinking. I had been to San Francisco, but had no idea I wanted to move there until just now.

Mom bought me a bus ticket and gave me some food money. Detective Benson had gotten the FBI to give me a little money, too, so I had enough to survive for a few days.

I knew my life would need to change. I could no longer live on the streets. I needed to take this opportunity to pull things together. San Francisco seemed like a good place.

Actually, anywhere did.
